Couples and housemates

Shared living

Homora works for a couple, and for up to four people sharing a home. Everyone approves what affects them, and each person pays for their own seat or stays on Free.

Partners or shared living

You choose the household type when you set up. Partners is up to two people; shared living is two to four.

  • Changing the type needs every member’s approval. Going back to partners is possible with two members or fewer.
  • Shared living starts with equal splits and with everyone’s income private.
  • Homora uses people’s names, and “your housemates” for the group.
  • Split by room (Premium) turns room sizes into custom percentages that add up to 100.

Approvals that scale

Every affected member approves a change, and every member approves a month close. That is true for two people and for four.

  • Invite codes never outnumber the free places, and the rest are revoked when the household fills.
  • A split proposal still waiting when someone joins is withdrawn, with notice to whoever made it, so the newcomer’s share is agreed afresh.
  • Settling up suggests the fewest payments that clear every balance.

Moving in together, on your terms

Two people can join one person’s household or start a new one. Nothing moves by default: every cost, savings box and goal needs an explicit choice to move, keep personal, end or archive.

  • Duplicates are flagged, such as two Wi-Fi contracts, so you choose which continues.
  • You decide where the money in a box or goal goes. Nothing is approved until every balance is fully allocated.
  • Both of you approve the plan, and so does every existing member of the household that continues.
  • The joint household starts on the 1st of a month, and until then each of you keeps your own costs.

Leaving, after settling

Anyone can leave, with no approval, because nobody can be made to stay. The plan waits until nothing is owed, so no balance is left hanging.

  • Homora shows the exact amount to settle. Both people can agree a write-off, up to the smaller balance.
  • The leaver’s share of unpaid bills goes to the members who stay, in proportion to their agreed shares.
  • Splits among those who stay are rescaled: 40, 30 and 30 without the 40 becomes 50 and 50.
  • The leaver takes their stake in shared savings and gets a new household of one. They can still read the months they belonged.
  • If the owner leaves, the longest-standing member becomes owner.

Closing a household of one

If you are the only member left, you can close the household. Every open month is closed first, and you confirm.

  • Your personal records are kept, and the household’s history stays readable to you.
  • Unpaid bills stay yours as personal arrears.
  • Its goals and boxes become personal goals.
Premium

Premium is per seat: in a household of two to four, each member who wants it takes a Shared seat and the others stay on Free, and a Free member can still approve or reject a Premium member’s proposals.

Questions people ask

How many people can share a household?

Partners is up to two people, and shared living is two to four. A household is one shared home, so living apart while sharing costs is not supported.

Do all of us need Premium?

No. Premium is per person. Each member pays for their own seat or stays on Free, and a Free member can still approve or reject what a Premium member proposes.

What happens to our shared savings if someone leaves?

The person leaving takes what they put in, as a personal goal or box of the same name. Everyone else’s stake stays exactly as it was.

Can my housemates see my income?

Only as much as you choose. In a shared living household everyone’s income starts out private.
