Records, never moves money

Settle up

Homora works out who owes whom, then hands you the amount, a reference and the other person’s saved payment details. You pay from your own bank, then record it.

How the maths works

For each person, Homora adds what they funded and the reimbursements they sent, then takes off refunds received, their agreed share and reimbursements received. A positive result means they should receive money.

  • Example: shared bills of R33,000 (reconciled). Thandi’s share is R20,000 and she paid R25,000. Sipho’s share is R13,000 and he paid R8,000. Sipho pays Thandi R5,000.
  • Only the reconciled scope is settled. An unpaid bill is owed to the supplier, not to your partner.
  • A reimbursement is an entry in the settlement ledger, not another household expense.

The handoff

Open a suggested settlement and see everything you need to pay in your own banking app, in one place.

  • Who to pay and the amount.
  • The recipient’s preferred way to be paid, with the others one tap away.
  • A reference such as HOMORA OCT K7Q2, short enough for South African bank limits. It is unique, and it stays the same when you reopen the screen.
  • A Copy button on every value, and “Copied” shown in words and a tick.

Ways to be paid

Each person can save up to three ways to be paid, and mark one as preferred. It is optional: with none saved, the handoff shows the amount and the reference, and nudges the recipient to add how they would like to be paid.

  • EFT with bank, account holder, account number and account type.
  • PayShap with a phone number or a name@bank ShapID.
  • Other, in your own words, such as “Cash is fine”.
  • Only the members of your current household can see them, and the other person in an open balance after leaving, until it is settled. Lists show them masked, like •••• 4821.
  • Stored encrypted, kept out of logs, and never included in exports or notifications.

Record it, then confirm

After you pay from your bank, choose Record payment. The reference and the way you paid are stored with it, and the recipient is told.

  • The recipient answers Received or Not received yet. A payment counts the moment it is recorded; confirmation never changes the maths.
  • If it is flagged as not received, the payer is told. Either person can confirm it later, or the payer can reverse it.
  • At month end, an unconfirmed or disputed payment is an item to acknowledge, like the others.
  • You can enter a different amount when you record a part payment.

More than two people

In a household of three or four, Homora suggests the fewest payments that clear every balance. Each suggestion has its own handoff and its own reference.

  • Yours come first: “You pay Thandi”, “Lerato pays you”.
  • The rest follow under “Between your housemates”.
Premium

Attaching a proof of payment to a recorded payment is Premium; the handoff, the reference and recording the payment are free.

Questions people ask

Does Homora send the money?

No. Homora records and calculates; it never moves or holds money, and it never connects to your bank. You pay from your own banking app and then record the payment.

Who can see my payment details?

The members of your current household, and the other person in an open balance after leaving, until it is settled. Nobody else can. Lists show them masked, and each time the full details are shown it is audited.

What if the other person says they have not received it?

The payment stays recorded but is flagged, and the payer is told. Either person can confirm it later, or the payer can reverse it.

Do I have to pay the full amount?

No. You can enter a different amount when you record the payment, and the balance is worked out from what has been recorded.
