Terms of use

These terms are the agreement between you and Torus Solutions about using Homora. We have written them to be read, not to be skipped. If anything is unclear, write to us and we will explain it.

Who provides Homora

Homora is provided by Torus Solutions, South Africa (“we”, “us”), company registration number [Company registration number]. Our registered address is [Registered address].

“Homora” means the website at homora.co.za, the app at app.homora.co.za and any Android or iOS app we release. By creating an account or using Homora you agree to these terms.

Who can use Homora

You must be 18 or older and able to enter a binding agreement. Homora is not for children.

You sign in through Microsoft Entra External ID with an email address and password, or with Google or Apple if you choose. Give us accurate details, keep your sign-in secure and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.

Your account and your households

An account belongs to one person. Your personal records are yours, and nobody else in your household sees them. What a household sees comes from membership of that household, never from another person’s account.

A household is one shared home: partners (up to 2 people) or shared living (2–4 people). The person who creates it is its owner; if the owner leaves, the longest-standing member takes over. Each shared bill has a responsible payer, who gets the reminders.

A change to how a shared cost is split only applies once every affected member has accepted it. Each person also chooses how much of their income the household sees: private, shared total, shared detail, or agreed ratio only.

  • Leaving: any member can leave a household without anyone’s approval. What the members owe each other is settled first. You keep your personal records and take your stake in shared goals and savings with you, and you can still read the months you were a member of.
  • Closing: the only member of a household can close it. You keep your personal records, and the household’s history stays readable to you.

What Homora is and is not

Homora is a tool for planning and recording. It is not a bank or a payment service, and it never holds, sends or receives money. “Record payment” writes down something you did through your own bank. A settlement suggestion tells you who owes whom; you pay through your own bank.

Homora is not financial, tax, legal or accounting advice. The figures are what members record, and the calculations made from them, labelled as forecast, paid or reconciled. We do not check them against your bank. Decisions you make from them are yours.

A split or agreement is an arrangement between household members. Homora applies what you agreed, but it is not a party to it and cannot settle a disagreement between you.

Acceptable use

Please do not:

  • break the law, or use Homora to hide money or deceive anyone;
  • enter or upload another person’s information unless you are allowed to share it with your household;
  • use Homora to watch, pressure or control another person;
  • pretend to be someone else, or use an account that is not yours;
  • probe, scrape, overload or reverse-engineer the service, or get around its security or plan limits;
  • upload files that are unlawful or that contain malicious code.

Subscriptions and payment

Homora has a Free plan and a paid plan, Premium; our pricing page lists what each includes. Free carries on for as long as you like. There is no free period for Premium: the Free plan and the previews in the app are how you try Homora first.

Premium belongs to a person, never to a household. It comes in two prices: Single for a person living alone, and Shared seat for each member of a household of 2–4. The price follows the size of your household. When someone joins you, you move to the Shared seat price; when you leave, you move back to Single. Polar adjusts the charge in proportion.

Polar.sh sells Premium to you as merchant of record. It charges your payment method in US dollars, handles VAT and other sales taxes, and its own terms apply to the payment. The rand amounts we show are South African price points; your bank may add a foreign-currency fee. We never see or store your card number.

A monthly or yearly plan renews automatically at the end of each term until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your billing settings in the app. Cancelling keeps Premium until the end of the term you have paid for. If a renewal payment fails, Premium continues for 7 days after the first failure, and then the rules in the next section apply. Refunds are covered by our refund policy.

A Premium member can offer to pay for another member’s Shared seat, and the other person must accept. The sponsor sees none of the sponsored person’s private data. A sponsored seat ends, with notice to both, if the sponsor stops paying or either person leaves the household; the sponsored person can then take the seat over.

We may change our prices. We will tell you before a new price applies to you, and it will not apply to a term you have already paid for. [Owner to confirm: notice period for price changes.]

When Premium ends

Premium features are abilities, not things you keep. We never delete your data because Premium ended, but Premium behaviour stops. We tell you what will change when you cancel, 7 days before and on the day.

  • Custom splits return to equal from the first day of the next month. Closed months keep the splits they had. If another member of your household still has Premium, shared splits stay until their Premium ends too.
  • Goals and savings boxes beyond your Free allowance are locked, not deleted. You choose which one stays active between cancelling and the end of the paid term; after that we choose the one with the most recent contributions.
  • History beyond the Free window is locked again, and carried balances still use it.
  • Custom reminder timings go back to the defaults.
  • Files you attached stay viewable and downloadable, and you can still remove your own. You cannot add new ones until you return to Premium.

Your records and attachments

What you enter or upload is yours. You are responsible for it being accurate and for having the right to upload it. Only attach what you are allowed to share with your household.

You give us a limited licence to store, process and show your records and files, only so far as is needed to run Homora for you and the people you share a household with. We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.

Attachments are a Premium feature to add. Files can be JPEG, PNG, WebP or PDF, up to 10 MB each, 10 per record and 2 GB per person. We remove location and camera details from images. Anyone who can see a record can see its attachments. A file you remove is kept for 30 days, and you can restore it in that time; then it is deleted.

Availability and changes

We work to keep Homora available and correct, but we cannot promise it will never be interrupted or free of errors. We may add, change or remove features, and we will tell you ahead of time where a change would take away something you rely on.

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top and, for changes that matter, tell you by email or in the app before they apply.

Ending your account

You can stop using Homora at any time. Cancelling Premium does not close your account. To close your account and delete your data, email support@homora.co.za; the privacy policy explains what that involves.

We may suspend or close an account for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, or if the law requires it. Unless that would be unsafe or unlawful, we will tell you why first. Not paying for Premium is never a reason to close your account; it simply returns you to Free.

Our responsibility, in plain words

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or any other law that cannot be excluded. That includes your right to a service performed with reasonable care and skill, and your protection against unfair, unreasonable or unjust terms. If a term here conflicts with the law, the law wins.

Within that, we are responsible for loss you suffer because of our negligence or our breach of these terms, if that loss was reasonably foreseeable. We are not responsible for decisions you make from figures you or other members entered, for payments you make or miss outside Homora, for disagreements between household members, or for events outside our reasonable control, such as a failure at your bank or your network.

To the extent the law allows, our total responsibility for any one claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it. [Owner to confirm: whether to keep this limit.] This limit never applies to gross negligence, intentional harm, or anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. If we disagree about something, please write to us first and give us a fair chance to put it right. You may also complain to the National Consumer Commission, or to the Information Regulator about privacy. If you live outside South Africa, consumer protection rules of your country that cannot be waived still apply.
