Private by default

Personal money stays personal. A household sees what comes from membership and what each person chooses to share, never what sits in a partner’s account.

  • Hosted in South Africa
  • No bank connections
  • Income private unless you share it
Privacy between people

What a household can and cannot see

Access comes from an active household membership. Creating the household, or paying for Premium, gives nobody extra access to anyone else’s private records.

  • Your personal records

    Can see

Shared costs, shared goals and the split you agreed.

    Cannot see

Your personal bills, purchases, goals and categories, or what you have left after your own costs.

  • Your income

    Can see

Only what the level you choose allows (see below).

    Cannot see

Your income, unless you pick a level that shares it.

  • Approvals

    Can see

Each proposal that affects them, and whether you have accepted it.

    Cannot see

A change applied to a shared agreement before every affected member has accepted it.

  • How you like to be paid

    Can see

Your preferred way to be paid, shown in full only on the settle-up screen. Each full view is recorded.

    Cannot see

Anyone outside your household. Lists show it masked, and it is stored encrypted.

  • Receipts and screenshots

    Can see

Everyone who can see a record can see its files, including members on the Free plan.

    Cannot see

Files on your personal records, or a capture you have not finished yet.

  • A former member

    Can see

The months they were part of, read-only, with the files that were attached while they were a member.

    Cannot see

Later months, files added after they left, or your personal records. They cannot change anything.

  • Someone who pays for your Premium seat

    Can see

Nothing more than any other member. Paying gives no access to your data.

    Cannot see

Your income, personal commitments or personal goals.

Income visibility

You choose who sees your income

Four levels, set per person and changed whenever you like. Unknown income stays unknown; it is never treated as zero.

Private
Your household sees shared costs only. No income, no combined totals.
Shared total
Your household sees the combined income, not who earns what.
Shared detail
Enables a combined view and income-based split suggestions.
Agreed ratio
Used to suggest a fair split. The amounts stay private.

If a split is weighted by income and yours is private, the shares can hint at what you earn. Homora warns you before that can happen.

The combined household view is offered only when nobody’s income is private.

Where your data lives

In South Africa, behind private doors

Homora runs on Microsoft Azure in the South Africa North region. The parts that hold your information are not open to the internet.

  • Azure South Africa North

The Homora app and its server run in one Azure region in South Africa, and connections to them use HTTPS.

  • A private database

Your records are kept in a PostgreSQL database with private access only: no public endpoint, reachable only from inside Homora’s own network.

  • Secrets in Key Vault

Homora’s own credentials, and the key that encrypts how people like to be paid, are kept in Azure Key Vault, not in the code.

  • Attachments in private storage

Receipts, photos and PDFs live in private Azure storage with no public access and no shareable links. Homora serves a file only after the same check as the record it belongs to.

How attachments are handled

  • Location and camera details are removed from photos before they are stored.
  • Only JPEG, PNG, WebP and PDF files are accepted, judged by their contents and not their names.
  • Only the person who added a file can remove it. Removed files can be restored for 30 days and are then deleted; the storage service keeps a safety copy for up to 7 more days.
Sign-in

Sign in the way you prefer

Homora does not store your password. Sign-in is handled by Microsoft Entra External ID.

  • Email and password

Your email address is verified with a one-time code when you sign up.

  • Google

    Use your Google account.

  • Sign in with Apple

    Use your Apple ID.

One person, one account

If a new way of signing in uses an email address that already belongs to a Homora account, Homora never links them silently. It asks you to sign in the way you did before, and only then connects the two.

You are notified when a sign-in method is added or removed.

You can remove any sign-in method except your last one, so you cannot lock yourself out.

No bank connections

Homora never moves money

Homora records; it never moves money. Nothing connects to your bank, and everything in Homora is entered by you.

  • No bank logins

Homora never asks for your online banking credentials and never reads your bank account.

  • You settle from your own bank

Settle up shows who owes whom, the amount and a reference to copy. You pay in your own banking app, then choose Record payment.

  • Optional payment details

If you want, you can save up to three ways to be paid, such as an account number or a PayShap ID, so a housemate can copy them. It is your choice, they are encrypted, and only your household sees them.

POPIA

Designed with POPIA in mind

South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act asks that personal information is handled with care. Homora is designed around that: your data is kept in South Africa, personal records are private by default, and what a household sees is limited to what you share.

When you first attach a file, Homora reminds you to attach only what you are allowed to share with your household, because a chat screenshot can include someone else’s details.

The privacy policy explains what Homora collects, why, and how to reach the information officer.

Your data, your call

You stay in control of what you put in

A plan ending never costs you your records.

  • Nothing is deleted when Premium ends

Premium features stop and you are told first, but your records and history are kept.

  • Reports on Premium

Premium includes month and year reports as CSV or PDF. Files you have already downloaded stay yours.

  • Leaving a household

You keep read-only access to the months you were part of, and your personal records stay yours.

  • Remove your own files

The person who added an attachment can remove it at any time and restore it within 30 days, on any plan.

Delete your account

To delete your account and the personal data in it, email support. Account deletion is handled by our support team for now.

Questions about security

Can my partner or housemates see my income?

Only if you choose a level that shares it. On Private, your household sees shared costs and nothing about what you earn.

Does Homora connect to my bank?

No. Homora does not log in to your bank, read your accounts or send payments. You enter your own records and settle from your own banking app.

Who can see the receipts I attach?

Receipts on a personal record are visible only to you. On a household record, every active member can see them, and a former member sees only the files added while they were a member.

Where is my data stored?

In Microsoft Azure’s South Africa North region, in a private database and private file storage.
